Little Balkans Quilt Show 2003 *Update*

The 16th Annual Little Balkans Quilt Show sponsored by the Little Balkans Quilt Guild, was held on Sat. August 30th and Sunday, August 31st in Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium. Thanks to Elma Hurt and her committee as well as many Guild members who helped it was a fantastic show!

There were 169 items entered and on display, eight vendors with quilt related items and the guild boutique of handmade items were for sale. Serving as judge for the quilt show was Jeanne Poore, Overland Park. Collection "A," special traveling display of the Hoffman Challenge quilts were also on display for the viewers enjoyment.

The quilt, "All Birds Would Like To Be Red" by Velma Spillman of Moran, KS, was selected by secret ballot as the viewer's choice by those visiting the show on Saturday. The quilt also received a blue ribbon in the appliqué category and the Overall Winner of all blue ribbons awarded.

At the close of the quilt show, the guild's donation quilt was given away. The winning ticket drawn was Joyce Bardeen of Enon Valley, PA. Mrs. Bardeen is a charter member of the quilt guild who recently moved to Pennsylvania. Total attendance for the two-day quilt show was approximately 750 despite the rain showers.
